Dr. Georgios D. Bathrellos is a Professor in the Department of Geology at the University of Patras. His Ph.D. research focused on Geomorphology, Engineering Geology, and Urban Geology. He holds two Master’s degrees and a Bachelor’s degree in Geology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (N.K.U.A.). In 2015, he received the “Konstantinos Ktenas” Award from the “Academy of Athens” for his original research in Geology. He currently serves as President of the Committee of Geomorphology and Environment of the Geological Society of Greece. He has published over 200 scientific papers in international and Greek journals and conference proceedings, achieving significant international recognition. Six of his publications have been recognized as “Most Cited Papers”. His work has received over 4,500 citations, and he holds an h-index of 35.

Dr. Bathrellos serves as Associate Editor for the journal “Natural Hazards” (Springer) and as Editor-in-Chief for “Edelweiss Applied Science & Technology. He has acted as Guest Editor for numerous special issues in various scientific journals. In 2025, he was awarded the“Editor Distinction Award” by Springer Nature. He is also an Editorial Board member and reviewer for multiple scientific journals.
