Our Department has already completed 45 years since it accepted its first students. Since then, our numerous graduates and postgraduates have been practicing the Science of Geology in public institutions and services, geological and technical companies of the private sector as well as teachers, actively contributing to the development of the country. Many of our graduates have careers and excel as teachers and researchers in distinguished institutes and universities around the world.

The Department of Geology, since its establishment, has consistently and steadfastly provided high quality educational and research work, despite the difficulties and adversities faced by higher education in Greece, especially in the last decade. We are proud that our Department excelled in the External Evaluation process conducted in 2012 by an International Committee of Experts appointed by the Quality Assurance Authority for Higher Education. The new, reformed Undergraduate Programme of our Department was also accredited in 2019 and meets the standards of both the national and European Quality Assurance Authorities for Higher Education.
