Associate Professor Dr. Petros Koutsovitis (University of Patras, Department of Geology) specializes in the fields of Petrology, Mineralogy, Volcanology, and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) applications.  He has conducted postdoctoral research in Greece and Austria at Institutions including the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), the University of Vienna (UNIVIE), the Chemical Process and Energy Resources Institute (CERTH), and the Hellenic Survey of Geology and Mineral Exploration (HSGME).
His research focuses on the petrogenesis of magmatic rocks, ophiolites, lava formation, metasomatic processes, and the sustainable use of geological raw materials. He has authored over 45 publications in SCI-indexed international journals and has presented his work at numerous International conferences.
Dr. Koutsovitis has been actively involved in European research projects, including Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe and also RFCS initiatives. His contributions to geoscience have been recognized with an award from the Academy of Athens. He also serves as a reviewer for several scientific journals and supervises undergraduate and postgraduate research in Petrology and Volcanology.
