Doctoral Degree

The Doctoral Studies Programme of the Department of Geology is organised and operates in accordance with the provisions of Greek Law 4485/2017, the other relevant legal provisions and decisions in force, as well as the provisions of the Regulations for Doctoral Studies of the Department of Geology (Government Gazette 1557/8.5.2018 Vol. B.).

The doctoral studies aim at the creation of high quality and modern scientific research, as well as the training of scientists capable of contributing to the progress and development of science and basic research. The graduates of the doctoral programmes are intended to staff the research, business and educational potential of the country and abroad. At the same time, the doctoral programme is a source of academic prestige and international academic distinction for the Department, as well as for the University in general, and contributes to the qualitative and quantitative upgrading of research output.

A Bachelor Degree and a MSc degree are prerequisites for entering the Doctoral programme of the Department. A minimum time of six semesters is required to complete the thesis. The Ph.D. degree is awarded primarily on the basis of successful completion of significant and original research, and after a successful defence of the Thesis in front of a seven-member examining committee. For more details on the underlying law, institutional and departmental framework, English-speaking individuals are strongly encouraged to contact the Secretariat of our Department.
