General Information

The MSc "Applied Geosciences" aims to train new specialized scientists, coming from the Departments of Geology and related scientific disciplines and aims to provide high quality postgraduate studies in cutting-edge issues of Geosciences. The specialisations of the MSc have been selected to cover a significant range of relevant topics, and the needs of the economy, society and sustainable development.

The MSc "Applied Geosciences" leads exclusively to the award of the Diploma of Postgraduate Studies (MSc) in the following specialisations:

Applied Environmental Geology and Geohazards
Mineral Resources Management in Sustainable Development
Applied Geological Mapping and Field Investigation
Geoinformatics and Earth Observation
In this way the MSc will provide an essential qualification for:

α. The acquisition by postgraduate students of in-depth knowledge in mineral resources, geohazards, engineering projects, environment, field research, use of modern technologies, promotion of scientific excellence and research, cultivation and development of leadership capabilities,

b. to broaden and promote theoretical and applied knowledge in the individual subjects of the MSc through the courses offered by the Programme of Studies and the students' research-based Postgraduate Diploma Thesis, respectively,

c. the training of scientists capable of pursuing doctoral studies in relevant scientific areas,

d. the preparation and training of qualified and competent scientists and researchers who will promote the development of the country and Greek enterprises.

e. the creation of professionals with a strong scientific background, upgraded skills in analytical research tools that will allow them to work as freelancers (designers and contractors) and as professional executives in positions of increased responsibility in technical and construction companies, in design offices, in companies exploring and exploiting mineral resources, in oil companies, in RES companies, in private and public sector institutions and institutes or even in the central government, in education and in the public sector.

The MSc leads to the award of a Master of Science (MSc) in "Applied Geosciences" after the full and successful completion of the Programme of Studies.

The title is awarded by the Department of Geology of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Patras.
