Dr. Petros Petrounias was born in Piraeus in 1989. He earned his BSc in Geology in 2011 and his MSc in Mineral Raw Materials in 2013. He received his PhD in Applied Petrography, with a focus on Circular Economy principles, from the University of Patras, Greece, in 2019.

From 2016 to 2021, he worked as a geologist, conducting numerous Geological and Environmental impact studies. Between 2020 and 2022, he was a researcher at the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), where his primary research focused on the sustainable use of Mineral Raw Materials. Following a tenure as a permanent secondary education teacher (2021-2022), he was elected as a member of the Laboratory Teaching Staff (EDIP) at the Department of Geology, University of Patras, a position he holds to this day.

Dr. Petrounias has published over 53 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and more than 40 articles in international conference proceedings. He is an expert in the study and application of mineral raw materials in various environmental contexts, as well as in the microscopic analysis of mortars and concretes produced from both natural and alternative raw materials.
