Ioannis Koukouvelas was born in Greece in 1962. He studied Geology at the University of Patras, graduating in 1984. He pursued postgraduate studies at the same institution (Department of Geology), completing his PhD in 1989, titled “Geotectonic Evolution of the Rhodope Zone”.
In 1995, he joined the faculty of the Department of Geology at the University of Patras, and since 2010, he has been serving as a Professor. He has conducted postdoctoral research at Stanford University (USA) and St. Mary’s University (Canada).
